The AI trade is entering its fourth year, and the market is still leaning on it. The S&P 500 sits around 7,700, a little below its August record. Under that headline number, though, the market is narrow. In September, most S&P 500 stocks fell while tech held the index up. The Nasdaq finished the month up close to 2%, and the Dow dropped more than 4%.

The bigger issue going into November is interest rates. With 15 years of experience as a financial advisor, I’m watching interest rates especially closely heading into November. The 10-year Treasury yield hit its highest level in more than 20 years, which pressures every stock priced on future growth. November also brings the midterm elections and a heavy round of big-tech earnings. Historically, late October has kicked off the strongest six-month stretch of the year for stocks. This year, seasonal tailwind is running into high yields, so I’m sticking with companies that already turn AI demand into actual earnings.

Key Market Catalysts Driving AI Growth Into 2027

Global AI investment is on pace for roughly $1 trillion this year. Goldman Sachs expects AI capex to keep growing as a share of U.S. GDP through 2028. Most of that money goes to chips, data centers and networking. Hyperscalers like Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon and Meta keep raising their budgets instead of cutting them, and that’s the main thing holding up the stocks below.
