5 Tips To Get Your Small Business Recommended By AI In Q4
U.S. shoppers are projected to spend $275.1 billion online this holiday season, up 6.7% from last year. Consumers are projected to spend $118 billion at small businesses during the holiday season, according to QuickBooks. It’s survey also found that 46% of small businesses had taken steps to become easier to find through AI-powered search or shopping tools. Adobe expects traffic arriving from AI assistants to retail sites to climb 130% year over year. On Thanksgiving Day alone, Adobe expects AI-driven visits to jump 159%.
The reason is simple: buyers are starting to ask AI what to purchase before they visit a store or website. When someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, or another AI assistant for a recommendation, the model does not search the internet the same way a traditional search engine does. It builds a response from structured information, third-party references, reviews, and the clarity of a company’s digital footprint. That same buyer may then use a traditional search engine to verify what the AI surfaced. ChatGPT has become a pre-search layer for product and business discovery.
In March 2026, referral traffic from generative AI sources converted at a rate 42% higher than non-AI traffic, according to Adobe Analytics. Those visitors stayed 48% longer and viewed 13% more pages per visit. That is not casual browsing behavior. It is research behavior with commercial intent. Adobe found that 39% of U.S. consumers have used generative AI for online shopping. Of those who did, 85% reported that the experience improved. In one year, AI search moved from an early behavior to something that now sends higher-intent buyers to business websites. These five moves help small businesses become easier for AI systems to interpret, reference, and recommend.
