Deepfake Endorsements, Cloned Accounts, And AI Fake Influencers; Targeting Brands And Talent
Deepfakes damage credibility. Trust serves as our operational infrastructure in today’s digital ecosystem; it is not a soft value. The foundations of business, marketing, and personal brand value start to crumble when people lose faith in what they see and hear, particularly the faces and voices of celebrities, influencers, athletes, and the organizations that represent them. That risk is now possible thanks to generative AI.
The majority of agencies are unprepared for deepfake endorsements, cloned social media accounts, and completely AI-generated “fake influencers,” which are subtly turning into a legitimate fraud vector for both brands and talent.
Tom Hanks warned followers directly on Instagram that an AI-generated image of him was endorsing a phony dental plan: “BEWARE!! An AI version of me appears in a video that promotes a dental plan. I am not involved in it.

Jimmy Donaldson’s character, MrBeast, exposed a deepfake iPhone giveaway scam that was going around on platforms and publicly questioned X and other platforms about why they weren’t doing a better job of stopping it.

These are obvious, well-known examples. The same strategies work silently against NIL athletes, mid-tier creators, and agencies handling six- and seven-figure brand deals.
The attack surface has significantly increased. With publicly available generative AI, it is now possible to quickly and affordably create voice clones trained on seconds of public audio, face-swap and lip-sync tools, and synthetic personas. Adversaries scrape training data from podcasts, Instagram Reels, LinkedIn posts, conference talks, and TikToks. The outcome is industrial-scale social engineering targeted at the creator and athlete-marketing economy, rather than merely isolated celebrity antics.
