The Next Era Of Marketing AI Will Be Proactive

Artificial intelligence has already made information dramatically easier to access. A marketer can summarize a campaign report, analyze a customer segment or research a market trend in seconds. Work that once required hours of searching, pulling reports and coordinating across teams can increasingly begin with a question typed into an AI interface.

That is a meaningful improvement, but it still requires the marketer to know what to ask.

The more consequential shift now underway is toward proactive intelligence. Instead of waiting for a question, AI systems can continuously interpret customer behavior, campaign performance and business goals to identify opportunities that deserve attention. For large enterprise brands managing enormous amounts of data across customers, products and channels, that could fundamentally change how marketers use AI.

According to a recent survey from my company, Prosper Insights & Analytics, 53.2% of executives and business owners say they already use generative AI, compared with 37.9% of employees. The next opportunity is to move beyond on-demand assistance and make that intelligence available to marketers before they have to seek it out.

Proactive Intelligence Requires The Right Foundation

Enterprise marketers have no shortage of information. Customer data may live in a data warehouse or CRM, while campaign performance, creative history, channel activity and product information are spread across other systems and teams.

AI can make that information much easier to use, but only when it has the right foundation. Effective marketing AI needs governed customer data, campaign performance, business context, channel signals and clear rules around how a brand operates.

For marketing leaders, then, the challenge extends beyond choosing an AI model. They need to organize the context that allows AI to understand what is actually happening across the business.
