This 25-Year-Old Raised Over $100 Million For His AI Data Startup At A $4 Billion Valuation
In a little more than a year, 25-year-old Ali Ansari has turned a small AI recruiting business into a $4 billion provider of training data to the biggest AI labs.
His AI data startup, San Francisco-based Micro1, has raised a fresh funding round of more than $100 million at a valuation of $4 billion, according to two people familiar with the deal.
The company counts frontier AI labs, Microsoft, Amazon and robotics companies like 1X as customers. Several of them are participating in the new round, including two frontier labs and two of xAI’s cofounders, the sources said.
Micro1 declined to comment.
The fundraise catapults Micro1’s valuation eightfold in just a year, up from $500 million in September 2025.
It’s a quick rise for the solo founder, who at the beginning of last year was running an AI recruiting business generating roughly $7 million annually.
Micro1’s transformation began when another data-labeling company asked it to help recruit hundreds of engineers. Ansari realized that the larger opportunity was not simply finding technical workers, but supplying frontier AI companies with high quality, human-created data needed to train and evaluate their models. He quickly repositioned Micro1 around locating people who could create such data, using its AI interviewer to find and vet engineers, doctors, lawyers and other domain experts. By December 2025, eight months into that pivot, Micro1 had crossed $100 million in annualized revenue.
The company’s growth has continued. In August, TechCrunch reported that Micro1 had reached a $500 million gross annual run rate.
