Google Backtracks On Free AI Plan Limits For Unnamed Premium Devices
Google has backtracked on a recent change that left users with bundled promotional subscriptions without access to key AI tools available to paying users on nominally identical AI Pro plans.
This story is about Antigravity, Google’s AI coding tool, but it matters to anyone on a promotional AI Pro plan. The company already reserves certain peripheral perks for paying subscribers, but this change impacted the plan’s core AI capabilities, leaving promotional AI Pro subscriptions without access to any top-tier Gemini models.
Following a backlash from disgruntled users, Google has begun granting users with promotional AI Pro plans access to the latest Gemini 4 Argon model in Antigravity after initially restricting it to those making ongoing monthly subscription payments. With no Gemini Pro models remaining and all third-party models due to be removed from promo plans on November 2, this would have left all promo users with Gemini 3.8 Flash as the only model remaining.
Google’s product documentation has been updated to reflect the changes, which now give some promotional users with “eligible premium devices” access to Argon in Antigravity, just like those on paid plans.
I’ve noticed the change on my own account, along with the unexpected addition of third-party Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 models from Anthropic, both of which remain officially available only to paying subscribers.
The move will come as a relief to those who feel their service had been unfairly downgraded and no longer delivered the value offered when they made their purchasing decision.

Timeline Of Argon Availability In Antigravity
While previously imposed plan differences persist, the Gemini 4 Argon issue now appears to have been resolved. However, important questions remain unanswered.
