Google's "Call for Me" lets Gemini phone businesses for you

Google is testing "Call for Me," a feature that lets Gemini call businesses on a user's behalf, TechCrunch reports. For now, only Pixel 11 owners in the US with a paid Gemini subscription can use it, and they also need the beta version of Google's Phone app.

According to Google, Gemini can pass along personal information that users have approved, which lets it handle more tasks like making reservations, rescheduling appointments, or checking whether a product is in stock. The AI works through phone menus, waits on hold, and calls from the user's own number. A live transcript lets users follow the conversation and take over at any time.

The feature builds on earlier Google experiments, such as Google Duplex. Meta's AI agents Muse and Instinct can now make phone calls too. Google says it's starting small because real conversations involve a lot of nuance. The company has more details on its support page.
