Qobuz Rolls Out Tag To Flag AI-Generated Music On Its Platform

The explosion of AI-generated content is spreading through music streaming like Japanese knotweed. Now Qobuz, the independent high-res platform based in France, is making the infestation visible directly within its app with an AI flag.

The latest update of the platform’s app displays a tag alerting users when music has been identified by Qobuz as AI-generated. This extra transparency is designed to allow users to easily identify exactly what they are listening to.

Qobuz believes that music remains a matter of human creation and choice. A curated human approach has long been one of the defining traits that sets the service apart, with a USP built around diverse musical discovery driven by real editorial teams rather than algorithms.

Handpicked selections, playlists, and featured content on the platform are the result of the curation team’s expertise and personal choices. This human-centered approach automatically rules out AI-generated content from what is presented to listeners.

“Today, the challenge is no longer just detecting AI-generated music but enabling listeners to identify it clearly. At Qobuz, this transparency, which is our hallmark, comes with a core conviction: musical discovery must remain guided by human choices. Everyone should be able to know what they are listening to and make informed choices,” says Georges Fornay, deputy CEO of Qobuz.

According to Qobuz, 60% of streams from tracks identified as AI are currently deemed fraudulent by the platform’s anti-fraud systems and are therefore excluded from rights-holders’ royalty payouts. Meanwhile, more than a third of albums identified as AI-generated with no listening activity—covering four million tracks—have been removed from the app’s search engine.
